Tom Silvatta's creative inspiration is centered on the people of Hawaii and their culture. The Hawaiian spirit, a people who have lived in harmony with the earth and whose history is steeped in prayer, is at the core of his aesthetic, and is sublimated into his jewelry as traditional motifs, such as the tapa (kapa) pattern. At the same time, his creations are quietly imbued with the culture of the indigenous Maori people of New Zealand, as well as his own Asian and Southeast Asian roots, giving them a depth and universality that transcends the world.
